There’s something special about Your Second Life Begins When You Realize You Only Have One. It’s fiction but it also kind of reads like self-help because while reading it there are so many good tips and examples of changing perspectives. This book is a self-help book hidden in a novel and it’s perfect for people who want an example of the change they want and it’s a nice change from how self-help books are written as guides.
Your Second Life Begins When You Realize You Only Have One is about a 38 year-old women, Camille, who should be happy and you’d think would be happy from her good job, loving husband, and wonderful son but she realizes she’s not as happy as she used to be. she doesn’t particularly like her job and notices there’s been a shift in her relationship with her husband and son and she seems to be generally be annoyed and frustrated by the littlest things. Camille meets a man, Claude, who’s a routinologist and offers his unique advise and perspective to guide Camille’s journey back to enjoying life one step at a time.
I can relate to where Camille is coming from and I’m sure many other people can as well, which is why I enjoyed reading this so much. Along with my self-help binge lately this book was different but still delivered the same message a non-fiction self-help would have. In ways, it was definitely more enjoyable and I felt very optimistic once I finished the book.
However, I would have liked more information and details about Camille’s relationship and how she found the balance between work, personal projects, family, and her journey back to happiness. There was a lot of jumping between scenes to the progress of her journey and sometimes felt there wasn’t enough of how she got to the next step of her journey with Claude.
Reading Your Second Life Begins When You Realize You Only Have One is a constant reminder of looking at the brighter side of things because the perspective you have is everything to how you live your life and how you feel about your life. It matters to see the positive in situations and that it’s all about the mindset you have rather than having a perfect life. This book is different because it still feels like a self-help book and that’s what makes it unique.
